Action Oriented Prompts for Family Photography Sessions
One trend I’ve seen over an over again in family photography is a departure from the “typical” posed family photo where everyone is smiling and looking at the camera. Don’t get me wrong, there is definitely a place for those types of photos (e.g. on grandma’s fridge), and we do try to include some of those in every family gallery, but there are so many opportunities to capture genuine expressions, interactions and emotions during a family photography session. In short, family sessions do not have to be boring!
Below are some of the prompts I use at family session to help create genuine smiles and emotions and to give variety to the finished gallery that I deliver to the client.
Play Chase around mom and dad
Airplane the baby or toddler overhead
Hold Hands and Run!
Hold your toddler upside down over your head
Airplane baby to mom
Run to me and give me a high five!
Try to splash each other in the water
Run to mom and dad and give them a big hug!
Hold your toddler upside down
Throw rocks into the lake/river
Play follow the leader
Twirl your dress
Give each other a hug
