Hey! I’m Natalie, the owner of Aspen and Sage Photography. It all started when I was ten years old and my dad converted our family laundry room into a dark room for developing black & white film. In addition to taking our own photographs around the yard, we dug out some old negatives of my mom and her five siblings and spent the summer evenings cramped in that little laundry room making the images come to life.
Although many years have passed since my time spent in pitch black, enlarging negatives on top of the washing machine, it is clear to me that this is when it all started. This is when I fell in love with photography and began to see photography as a precious way to capture memories and look back in nostalgia of times past.
I first met this sweet family for their fresh 48 photos in the hospital, just after baby William was born. For their newborn session, I got to photograph them in their beautiful early 1900s home in a historic part of downtown Boise.
…You can’t wait another minute to download the images and start taking a peek at what you captured. You open the files on your computer and your heart begins to sink as you see photo after photo that is out of focus.
The first week of 2025 started off very busy with multiple maternity and newborn sessions; Rob and Kacey’s session included. Their session was a blast as we hiked the foothills near downtown Boise for all of these shots.
When I had my first baby, I brought my camera to the hospital thinking that I would take some fresh 48 photos of him before leaving the hospital. Little did I know that giving birth would feel like running a marathon and then getting hit by a bus at the end of it, and so that camera never made it out of the camera bag.
There is something pretty sweet about a newborn baby at Christmas time and so this session was really sweet to capture.
I had the pleasure of meeting the Arnold family’s baby boy on a cloudy afternoon in their beautiful Boise North End home. We had plans to shoot some photos in their home and then head to the foothills for the rest of the session, but as soon as we stepped outside it started raining.
This maternity session is a great example of how light colored, neutral outfits help the subjects stand out against the background. This session took place right around the transition from summer to fall here in Boise and so we ended up having a mix of greens as well as oranges, yellows and reds in the background.
Whether you are shopping for yourself (shhhh I won’t tell) or to gift to the photographer on your list, this guide has my top picks for gifts for the professional photographer.
